Ode to ‘Bou

Being on the West Coast – there are plenty of Starbucks and Peets , but I grew up in the Midwest and we have Caribou. I love Caribou and remember the good ol’ days when my friends and I would leave school to walk to the Bou on Grand Ave and get ourselves Vanilla Coolers - ah, those sweet high school days.

Back to reality – of course I paid the $10.50 for the Caribou’s Columbian ground coffee and immediately went home and brewed a pot. And boy was it good – it was tasty and delicious and oh-so-smooth. Good purchase in my books.  I better make sure I stock up on my Bou before it runs out. Once something is out, my local grocery store doesn’t tend to stock up (I mean, seriously what’s the deal with that Lucky’s????)

So, here’s a big thank you to Caribou to getting their stuff out to the West Coast. And keep ‘em coming.

To Contacts or Not to Contacts…

29 09 2009

…that is the question. For the past 7 years I’ve been wearing glasses. It started off having to only wear them because I couldn’t see that far, but in the past 2 years, I wear them all the time. I’m a proud wearer of specs and own several trendy pairs of glasses – Vera Wang, Coach, and now Prada (note the image – this is the exact design, except my frame is black with pewter). prada glasses

Last week at Lenscrafters (LC), I decided to be brave and told my optometrist that I wanted to try contacts. So within my appointment, I got every eye test possibly done, my pupils dilated, and I was trained on putting in and taking out contacts. My optometrist has my on a trial basis using Dailies – she doesn’t really want me wearing contacts for more than 2-3 hours in a day because I have pterygium and astigmatism - she believes wearing contacts will irritate my eyes and dry them out (more so to do with pterygium).  When I was at LC, they taught me how to put the contacts in and take it – funny enough when I was there, I had no problems putting them or taking them out.

5 days later, all I can say is that I don’t think contact life is for me. I had so much trouble putting them in and taking them out that I pinched my left eye yesterday! Double-OUCH! My eye immediately flared up and it was quite scary (thank goodness I had a personal day and was at home when this happened) – I don’t think anyone at work would’ve liked listening to the inappropriate words coming from my mouth.

So, I’m giving up – after a 1-week trial, I’ve decided that I’m not vain enough to want to wear contacts (please don’t mistake that I think others are vain that wear contacts, but in my case, I did want contacts because of vanity). I will be a proud wearer of glasses – besides, I look fab in them!
